On the afternoon of September 16, the Exhibition of Foshan’s 2021 Chinese Zodiac Liquor Bottles Design Competition was held in Dawugang Forest Park, where more than 50 ceramic works with the theme of “zodiac ox + liquor bottles” were exhibited, presenting the imagination and ingenuity of ceramic masters and young ceramists.
Present new ceramic works in Foshan
The 2021 Chinese Zodiac Liquor Bottles Design Competition officially launched on July 9 has received about 200 works of national, provincial and municipal ceramic masters from all over the country, and a number of ceramists, enthusiasts and college students majoring in design. Eventually, 50 works were selected in the competition, including 1 gold prize, 10 excellence prizes, and 3 popularity prizes.

The Chinese Zodiac is a unique cultural symbol in China, while Foshan’s ceramic culture is a well-known brand at home and abroad, along with Lingnan liquor culture as a major feature of Foshan culture. Chen Zhen, secretary-general of the Artistic Ceramic Professional Committee of Foshan Ceramic Industry Association, said that the competition has greatly integrated Foshan’s ceramic culture, Lingnan liquor culture and traditional zodiac culture, which will facilitate the dissemination of Foshan’s ceramic culture and Lingnan liquor culture in China to show cultural confidence. Meanwhile, the competition and exhibition have also highlighted the innovation of ceramists and presented new ceramic works in Foshan.
The Auspicious Ox, created by Chen Yanzhen, won the gold prize of the competition, which was designed simply with natural colors and contained modern and traditional senses. It is worth noting that the work will be introduced to the market as a finished product soon.
The exhibition will open to the public for free from September 17 to 30, where art enthusiasts can experience the charm of Foshan ceramics and Lingnan liquor culture by visiting the exhibition.
